For Human Rights Day / World Water Day, Extinction Rebellion (XR) Cape Town represented at a protest action, to show solidarity with the First Nations peoples who feel a deep historical, ecological and spiritual bond with this piece of land and water; to honour the organisations who have offered their love and labour to protect the Liesbeek River and other rivers and wetlands in the area; to pay our respects to the rivers and wetlands themselves; and to demand that the City of Cape Town steps up to its responsibilities to protect the Cape Floral Kingdom and the water resources of Cape Town which are deeply threatened by development and climate change.
